612,282. Disc brakes. ENGINEERING & RESEARCH CORPORATION. May 23, 1946, No. 15599. Convention date, May 29, 1945. [Class 103 (i)] A disc brake, particularly for an aircraft wheel, comprises a disc 20 secured to a tyreretaining flange 16 on the wheel rim and a non- rotatable but axially movable friction disc 38 supported by a member 30 consisting of a radial flange 32 secured to the axle 2 and a C-section outer part 34 containing means for forcing the disc 38 into engagement with the disc 20 such as an annular expansible member 48 to which pressure fluid may be admitted through a pipe 50. The disc 38 is formed with fingers 40 located in axially-extending slots 42 in the wall 36 of the part 34 and the flange 32, and is normally held out of engagement with the disc 20 by a spring 46 engaged between the flange 32 and the fingers 40.
