Abstract
611,819. Electrolytic treatment of fluids. DUBILIER CONDENSER CO. (1925), Ltd. May 9, 1946, No. 14044. Convention date, Feb. 12. Addition to 601,579. [Class 41] In a modification of the apparatus described in the parent Specification, the auxiliary electrodes are disposed on the main stream of fluid flow between the inlet conduit of the apparatus and the main fluid-treating electrodes. As shown in Fig. 1, a casing 10 which constitutes the main cathode of the apparatus is insulated from the main anode 14. The anode is formed with longitudinal slots 20 to permit free flow of the fluid through the casing 10 to the outlet 13. The lower end of the casing has a fitting 21 in which are mounted two adjustable auxiliary electrode rods 25, 26 which are connected in series with the main electrodes 10, 14 to a battery 29. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the anode comprises a slotted structure 36 of plastic moulded material, the surface of which is coated with a metallic layer of tin or other metal. An auxiliary electrode 41 is secured adjustably to the side of the casing 10, and a second auxiliary electrode 38 projects from the base of the anode 36. In a modification employing a metallic anode, the second auxiliary electrode comprises a metallic screen extending across the casing near the bottom. In a further construction, an auxiliary electrode consists of a pin depending from the anode and projecting through but insulated from a perforated metal disc which is arranged across the casing. The apparatus may be provided with a fixed or variable resistance.
