Abstract

869,226. Electric tests. ELECTRONIC SWITCHGEAR (LONDON) Ltd. Aug. 19, 1957 [Aug. 17, 1956], No. 25246/56. Class 37. A liquid conductivity measuring cell is provided with at least two carbon electrodes embedded within a body of insulating material, the electrodes being arranged so that their surface areas are exposed as parts of a machined surface made on or in the body of insulating material. As shown in Fig. 5, three carbon rings or discs 27, 28, 29 are provided with electrical connections and assembled in accurate spaced relationship by means of insulating spacers 32. The assembly is then supported in a mould and material introduced to form the body 30 whereafter an axial bore 31 is machined through the body and electrode assembly. This embodiment is suitable for flow line use but by plugging the lower threaded aperture 36 and providing the upper aperture 35 with a filler plug it may be converted to a laboratory-type measuring cell. In another embodiment discs 51, 52, 53, Fig. 8, are embedded in an insulating body 50 whose external surface is machined to predetermined dimensions. In other embodiments the insulating body is provided with a slit or bore of known dimension and diametrically opposed carbon electrodes embedded in the body have exposed surfaces contiguous with the bore or slit at diametrically opposed positions therein.
