Abstract

601,576. Treating fluids electrolytically. DUBILIER CONDENSER CO. (1925), Ltd. Feb. 1, 1946, No. 3274. Convention date, June 5, 1945. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 5, 1946.] [Class 41] Apparatus for the electrical treatment of fluids comprises an outer hollow electrode 10, Fig. 1, having ports for inlet and outlet of fluid, a perforated inner hollow electrode 13 spaced and insulated from the electrode 10, and a cup-like supporting member 14 mounted in and secured to one end of the electrode 13. As shown. the electrode or anode 13 is connected to a dry cell 30 through a variable resistance 31 and an ammeter 32. To increase the electrode area in contact with the fluid. an electrode may be longitudinally fluted or grooved, roughened or etched. The cathode may be of iron and the anode of brass. or both electrodes may be of brass. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also apparatus shown in Fig. 2 (Cancelled) in which the cathode consists of two conical walls 40, 41 spaced apart, and the anode 48 is located between these walls. The anode has perforations 49 and fluid supplied through an inlet pipe 44 has to take a tortuous path before being discharged through an outlet pipe 47. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
