Abstract
611,681. Root crop harvesters. HAMBLIN, H. J., and RAYBOULD, F. W. May 6, 1946, No. 13649. [Class 6 (iii)] A root crop harvesting machine is provided with a plurality of share rods, the lower extremities of which extend into the soil, spaced apart to pass raised soil therethrough, and has associated therewith a rotary member having a plurality of tines which lift the roots over the share rods, the tines being cranked and hingedly connected to the rotary member and being spring loaded to enable them to be displaced under excessive loading. In the construction shown, a U-shaped gridded trough is formed by a pair of share rods 3 which extend into the soil between which are further rods 5, the upper ends of which terminate in a receptacle 6 serving as a root collector. In operation, as the machine moves along the ground on land wheels 2, roots are lifted by the share assembly and passed therealong to the receptacle 6 by a rotary disc 7 whereon are mounted pivoted spring loaded tines 11, the drive for said disc being taken from the land wheels.
