611,492. Reinforced concrete. BANNISTER, J. L., and GUEST, KEEN, & NETTLEFOLDS, Ltd. May 2, 1946, No. 13357. [Class 20(iv)] A metal bar for use in reinforcing concrete is of oval cross-section, its periphery being free from projecting corners which may induce local cracking of the concrete, and is twisted throughout its length giving greater adherence with the concrete than that obtainable with a round bar. In the form shown, a steel rod A, hot-rolled to an oval cross-section is cold-worked by applying axial torsion to produce a twist of coarse pitch lying between 8 and 14 times the mean diameter of the rod. The coldworking of the rod raises its yield stress and increases its bond resistance with the concrete.
