Reinforced concrete includes at least two reinforcing rods 12, 13 Fig. 1 each provided along at least part of its length with projecting conformations 14 extending in a helical pattern around part of its circumference to form an interrupted screw thread, and at least one coupling member 17 in screw-threaded engagement with the rods and coupling them together end-to-end, the coupling being embedded in the concrete together with at least part of the lengths of the rods, the coupling member including means, such as a cross pin 22 for limiting the amount of engagement between each reinforcing rod and the member. The conformations 14 may extend around at least one-quarter of the circumference of the rod and preferably around one-half of the circumference, and may have greater radial height at their ends 15, Fig. 3 than intermediate their ends at 16.
