Abstract
611,049. Arc lamps. HEWITT, N. E. July 4, 1945, No. 17078. [Class 39 (i)] The carbon 12 is supported between three cylindrical rollers 14, 17, at least two of which 17 rotate on axes parallel to the carbon and may be spring mounted to facilitate insertion of the carbon. The third roller 14 is driven and has axial grooves and helical grooves. Alternatively, the driven roller may be mounted on a frame which is adjustable to vary the angle of its axis relative to the carbon. In either case, the idle rollers may be axially and helically grooved. In a further modification, a chain may be used to assist the rotary movement of the carbon and function as the current 'lead, Fig. 5 (not shown).
