Abstract
613,101. Arc lamps. HEWITT, N. E. July 4, 1945, No. 7862/48. Divided out of 611,049. [Class 39 (i)] The carbon of an arc lamp is mounted in bosses 30, Fig. 1, of a frame 11 and is driven by a chain 26 with internal inclined grooves so as to have rotational and axial feeding movements. Pins 27 on the chain engage the sprocket-wheel 28 and support the chain on the bosses 30 during replacement of the carbon. In another arrangement, Fig. 3, the carbon 12 is supported by helically-grooved rollers 37 in the frame 11, and is driven by a belt 43 wrapped around it and over two rollers 40, which are mounted in a frame 38. The frame is adjustable about an axis so as to vary the angle at which the band laps the carbon, and the distance apart of the bearings of the rollers 40 is also adjustable.
