1310195 Welding by fusion VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY I PROEKTNY INSTITUT TEKHNOLOGII KHIMICHESKOGO I NEFTYANOGO APPARATOSTROENIA 25 June 1971 29848/71 Heading B3R A wire or rod feed device comprises a power driven rotary cage 4 having an axial bore 10 through which the wire 11 may be fed, feed rollers 7, 8 freely rotatably mounted in the cage on pins 5, 6 the axes of which lie at a skew angle to the axis of the cage, the rollers 7, 8 being adapted to feed the wire forwards upon rotation of the cage, and at least a pair of further rolls 12, 13 mounted externally of the cage 4 on axes at right angles to the feed direction B, the rolls 12, 13 being spring loaded and having peripheral grooves so as to grip the wire and thus prevent any tendency to rotation caused by the rolls 7, 8. The wire 11 may be a consumable electrode or weld wire. Alternatively the device may be used for feeding wire in a wire producing plant. Reference is made to feeding soft non-ferrous wire material, e.g. aluminium.
