Abstract
610,292. Carding-engines. HOLT, S., WARD, C. V., and ATMOSPHERIC CONTROL, Ltd. April 8, 1946, No. 10730. Addition to 565,905. [Class 120(iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] In a fluff and dust removal system for a cotton and like carding engine, as claimed in the parent Specification, suction is applied to the base of the machine by a suction box with a valve therein which can occupy one of three positions, as follows:- (1) cutting off the suction connection to the box, (2) applying the suction to the base of the carding machine, and (3) applying the suction outside the machine. As shown, a valve plate b is a free fit within a suction box located at one end of a carding machine, and normally seats upon a seating surface c around a suction connection d disposed at about floor level. Pegs projecting from the ends of valve b ride upon the guide surfaces of plates f on opposite sides of the box when one end of the valve is raised by pulling out a handle i as in Fig. 5 to apply suction to the interior of the carding machine base, or when the other end is raised by opening a door g as in Fig. 6 to apply almost all the suction outside the machine.
