Abstract

609,758. Cutting rubber tubes and the like. THORNLEY, H. S., and UNITED EBONITE & LORIVAL, Ltd. March 21,1946, No. 8758. [Class 31 (i)] [Also in Group V] Rubber and like tubes as delivered from an extrusion apparatus are fed by a conveyer b to a cutting-apparatus for cutting the tubes into definite lengths, the tube being led by guides through a nozzle d forming part of a relatively stationary cutter e coacting with a cutter o carried by a slide k which is reciprocated transversely relatively to the direction of movement of the tube, and is shaped so as to cut a length of tubing in each direction of movement. The cutter o is shaped as shown in Fig. 6 so as to pierce the tube initially by means of projecting parts v. The cut tube is received on a conveyer w moving slightlv faster than the conveyer b, and is finally delivered by an air blast on to a tray at the side of the conveyer. The cutters eo are advanced by pneumatic means at the speed of the tube while the cutting- operation takes place, and the slide k is operated by electro-magnets r, s, Fig. 3, connected by non-magnetic connecting- rods t to the slide k which is constrained by upper and lower ball-bearings m, n. The blade o is pressed against the blade e by springs q. A pipe for delivering lubricant is provided.
