384,589. Cutting-apparatus for extrusion brick-machines. BIE, J. C. A. M. DE, 405, ChaussÚe de Malines, Putte, near Malines, Belgium. June 27, 1932, No. 18080. Convention date, June 27, 1931. [Class 87 (ii).] An automatically-acting stream-cutting machine for simultaneously cutting an extruded stream into a number of bricks, includes an endless conveying clay-receiving belt driven at a greater speed than the moving stream and a travelling frame advanced by the stream and carrying the intermittently-actuated cutting-mechanism in addition to means for releasing the severed portion and allowing it to pass beyond the carriage to a position in which it is pushed laterally through fixed cutting-wires. In the illustrated form the moving stream passes from the trough 20 on to the roller-supported portion 2 of the endless belt 1 until it contacts with the stop 7 on the rail carriage 3 and carries the latter with it during its subsequent advance. During this movement the hole 22 in the member 12 engages the projecting arm 21 of the member 14, which is reciprocated intermittently by the main driving-gear, and thus rotates the knife shaft 8 through the medium of the crank 11. The knife 6 thus severs a portion of the stream. The rotation of shaft 8 removes a member 15 from the path of a hook 26 connected to the stop 7 so that the severed portion of the stream can pass beyond the stop by swinging it upward about the pivot 24, and so advance until it strikes the fixed stop 19 at which point it is pushed laterally through the wires 16 by a cam-operated member 17. Two sets of wires 16 may be fitted to an adjustable frame so that either set can be brought into operation at will.
