Cigarette-making machines.-In a cutting device for a moving cigarette rod, a rotary-disc cutter 1, Fig. 1, is mounted in bearings in an inclined carrier 4, 4<1> connected by a pivot bolt 13 to a rotating shaft 5 and is driven by a crossed cord 7 passing over a pulley 6 on the cutter shaft 2 and over a fixed pulley 9 coaxial with the shaft 5, so that the cutter has a planetary motion about the shaft 5 and follows the axial movement of the cigarette rod when effecting a cut. The inclination of the carrier 5, 4<1> to the shaft 5 is adjusted in accordance with the speed of the moving cigarette rod, and the parts 4, 4<1> of the carrier are adjustably connected by bolts passing through slots in the part 4. A guide 18 for the cigarette rod is reciprocated by means of a crank disc 26, a connecting-rod 24, and crossheads 23, 20 connected by rods 21.
