Abstract
705,432. Cutting tubes or rods. TAYLOR, R. E. Oct. 2, 1952 [Oct. 3, 1951], No. 23057/51. Class 31(1) Apparatus for cutting off predetermined lengths from a tube or rod, e.g. a tube of spirally wound plastic material, which is fed forward continuously to the apparatus, comprises a flared funnel E for guiding the tube as it approaches a pivotallymounted guillotine blade F, a stop H for halting movement of the end portion of the tube after a pre-determined length thereof has travelled past the guillotine, the stop comprising a movable spring - mounted contact H<2> which is brought into contact with a fixed contact H<1> by movement of the end of the tube to energize a solenoid I serving to operate the guillotine and cut off the predetermined length from the tube, and a ring M for encircling the succeeding portion of the tube approaching the guillotine. The stop H is movable along a slideway G so as to vary the length of tube cut off. The guillotine and guide funnel may also be mounted on the slideway G. The apparatus may be adjustable both longitudinally and pivotally of the feeding machine. A deflector plate J impels the cut lengths of tube towards a discharge shoot K, and ejection of the cut lengths may be assisted by the provision of a leaf spring on the guillotine blade and by metal hoops L.
