609,372. Air cleaners. GOODLOE, A. M. March 12, 1946, No. 7720. [Class 8 (ii)] An oil bath filter comprises a casing 10 formed with a well 12, an annular filter container 14 located above the well 12 and disposed so as to form with the casing wall 10 an annular dirtladen air inlet passage 15 and of such shape that its vertical cross-sectional area increases progressively from a central inlet 17 to the side wall air discharge means, e.g. ports 27 located in a top wall 23, and oil and dust mixture discharge means, e.g. orifice 18 at the juncture of the container bottom and side walls. The oilcoated filtering medium which may be knitted metallic mesh strip material is arranged so that its packing density decreases progressively from the intake 17 to the side wall adjacent the discharge at 27. A venturi-like passage 39 assists discharge of oil and dirt through the orifice 18, and a metering plate 38 serves to limit the amount of oil agitated by the incoming air. '
