[Class 69 (iii)] In spraying, e.g. crops, by a boom on a vehicle in which the boom consists of a central section and two side sections, e.g. as in Specifications 572,556 and 587,484, the boom is attached to the machine by a horizontal fore-and-aft pivot 3 about which the boom can rock as the castors 20 supporting each side travel over uneven ground during spraying. This rocking can be limited by a doubleacting hydraulic cylinder 6 controlled by a valve 29 which can also be set to adjust the centre section through a limited arc in either direction. Frictional rubbing plates 4, 5 also help to damp out rocking movement. The whole boom can also be raised or lowered by a hydraulic cylinder 14 controlled by a 3-positioned valve 30 whereby blocks 11 of the frame 2 carrying the centre section 1 can be slid up or down on upright pillars 12. The valve 30 can also be set to put both ends of the piston in hydraulic communication to allow limited floating up and down movement; e.g. during spraying or transportion. Each side boom is made in two folding parts 16, 17 to fold like bird wings, either alongside the vehicle or overhead. For alongside folding a double-acting piston and cylinder rotates the whole side boom about a vertical hinge, while the outer section 17 is folded back on 16 by the pull of a cable 23 on a lever system 22, 26, 27. The inner end of the cable being fixed to the centre section (at 24, not shown) and pulling the outer section 17 back when the inner section 16 is folded forward alongside the vehicle. A tension spring 25 keeps the outer section yieldingly in line during spraying. 28 is the actual spraying bar with exit nozzles. The castors 20 may be adjusted along the boom as desired.
