Abstract

622,035. Crop-sprayers. PEST CONTROL, Ltd., DORMAN, A. K., and GLADSTONE, M. N. March 4, 1947, No. 6186. [Class 69 (iii)] A spraying machine has a spray boom articulated at two points forming two side portions pivoted at their inner ends to swing about vertical and horizontal axes, and to fold into a fore and aft position alongside the machine. In the embodiment a spraying ma. chine 1 carries at its rear a spray boom comprising a centre section 5 and two side sections 11, each side section having an outer section 26 hinged thereto by vertical hinges 27. The centre section, secured to slide blocks 4 co-operating with two vertical pillars on a fixed frame 2, may be moved vertically by a double acting hydraulic cylinder 6 anchored to the upper end of the frame. Each side portion 11 is secured at its upper part to a tubular support 9 rotatable about a post 8, and at its lower part to the support 9 via a double acting hydraulic piston and cylinder 17, Fig. 4, the piston 18 being pivotally connected to a cross member of the frame. Pressure fluid admitted or withdrawn from pipes 20 swivel the side portion upwardly about its upper trunnion. The swivelling support 9 is provided near its lower end with a lever arm 22 linked to the ram 23, Fig. 1, of a double-acting hydraulic jack, the remote end of the cylinder 24 being pivotally connected to the centre section 5. Pressure fluid admitted to or withdrawn from cylinder 24 swings the side section 11 from the extended to the folded position alongside the machine and vice versa. Each outer portion 26 has a lever mechanism 28 connected to a spring 31 and also connected by a cable 29 to a fixed arm 30. The movement of the inner side section 11 is thereby transmitted to the section 26 which folds against it. Spray bars 34 are secured to sections 11 and 26 and, if desired, to section 5. The positions of height adjustable castorwheels 25 may be varied along the sections 11. Specifications 557,068 and 587,484 are referred to.
