Abstract
608,812. Moulding concrete pipes. EDWIN, E., and NILSEN, N. D. March 1, 1946, No. 6432. Convention date, Nov. 24, 1943. [Class 87(ii)] In the method of producing a concrete pipe by winding stressed wire on a hardened concrete inner pipe 1 and then casting an outer concrete pipe 5 thereon, the inner pipe is subjected to an internal pressure which balances the stress produced by the wire during the hardening of the outer pipe in order that the completed pipe may have equal stress throughout. The pressure is produced by placing a cap 2 at each end of the pipe and introducing water or gas under pressure. Water may be introduced into a bag 7 in the pipe. The adhesion between the outer and inner pipe may be increased by radial reinforcement such as wavy wire arranged parallel to the axis of the pipe, or lengths of unit may project from the winding wire.
