Abstract

607,781. Preventing corrosion. McGRAW ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 1, 1945, No. 25451. Convention date, May 28, 1944. [Class 123(i)] An anti-corrosion unit 17, Fig. 3, for location within an iron hot water tank, comprises a member 27 of magnesium or other metal anodic relatively to iron, which projects inwardly from an iron, &c. head 19, having a screwthreaded portion 23 for engagement with an opening in the wall of the tank, and is provided at its inner end with a recess 35 housing a resistor 37 of from 5 to 200 ohms electrically connected between said member 27 and head 19. The two latter parts are secured together by a filling 39 of an insoluble and non-absorptive phenolic condensation product which is poured into an annular space left between the two parts and then baked. Fig. 4 shows the unit associated with an underground iron pipe 41, the end 21 of the head 19 of the unit being. connected to the pipe by a conductor 45. In a modified unit, Fig. 5, the resistor 67 is located within a central hole 61 in a porcelain spacer 57 and has its respective terminals secured to dished metal discs 69, 71 abutting the ends of the spacer, the spacer and discs being interposed between the end of the anodic member 65 and the screw-threaded head 51.
