Abstract

607,171. Screwing-up and unscrewing nuts &c. ARO EQUIPMENT CORPORATION. Jan. 28, 1946, No. 2745. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1945. [Class 83 (iii)] In an impact wrench comprising a rotatable gripping element having a projecting anvil, and hammer carried by a rotating driving element, the hammer moves in a linear, radial path with a limited outward travel. The wrench is driven pneumatically and comprises a casing 14 in which is rotatably mounted a member 22 with a pair of anvil projections 26. The hammers in the form of rollers 46 ride in a transverse slot 44 in a driving member 28 which is splined at one end to the motor-shaft 10 and is mounted at the other on a flanged member 56 having a pilot-pin 54 forming a bearing for the member 28, and a projection 58 received in a socket 60 in the anvil shaft 16. The hammers 46 are mounted on pins 50 projecting into sockets 48 therein to limit the radial movements of the hammers which engage cam surfaces 27 on the anvils. The hammers may be parallel sided and slide in the slot 44.
