Abstract

A printers' blanket comprises natural or synthetic rubber bonded or vulcanized to a brass surface on a flexible metal backing, preferably zinc, copper or steel, which may be perforate or imperforate. In an example, a thin layer of 70/30 brass is deposited on a metal sheet .032 in. thick, a rubber sheet .14 in. thick is applied by rubber cement and the whole is placed on a hollow drum with the rubber on the outside and is maintained under pressure by wrapping with a fine fabric wetted before use. The drum is then placed in an open steam vulcanizer and cured under steam pressure, allowing about 15 minutes to rise to 40 lbs. steam pressure and about 40 minutes at that pressure.
