Abstract

432,104. Fenders. PHILLIPS, O. J., 30, Churchways Avenue, Horfield, Bristol. Dec. 2, 1933, No. 36001. [Class 113 (i)] Ships fenders are made with a sponge rubber core surrounding a central hole which is lined by a layer b of abrasion - resisting material backed by a layer f of square - woven rubber - proofed fabric. The outside is covered with similar layers c, g. The fender is preferably vulcanized in a. mould under conditions which leave the outer plies of fabric under tension by reason of the pressure developed in the sponge rubber during vulcanization. Cork may be added to the sponge rubber mixture. The attachment cord d may be proofed with rubber and in one form is passed back along the sides of the fender.
