[Class 35] An armature reactionexcited machine has control and second field windings acting in the same sense and the latter is connected in series with the load and has a shunt circuit for limiting the current flowing through it. In the form shown, separately excited and compensating windings 18, 23 respectively produce fields opposed by the secondary component of armature reaction, but the effect of 24 is decreased with increasing load current by the provision of a shunt 25 having an inverse voltage resistance characteristic.
