[Class 44]' [Also in Group VII] In a cast-off buckle of the type which is detachably connected to the inner end of the belt by a hook, stud or the like engaging a bar, slot or the like, and which can therefore be disconnected without having to detach the outer end of the belt from the buckle, inadvertent release of the hook is prevented by a spring blade or tongue. A buckle 1 has hingedly attached to it a plate 2 provided with a transverse slot 3 leaving at the outer edge of the plate a cross-bar 4 at the ends of which are integral extensions 5 forming lugs which support a keeper bar 6; the slotted part and cross-bar are bent back slightly relatively to the inner part of the plate 2. The cross-bar 4 is detachably engaged by a hook 8 on a plate 9 to which the inner end 10 of the belt is attached; this hook 8 is formed by folding back an extension of the plate 9, the extension having a rectangular aperture 12 so that the hook is U-shaped, comprising a bar 8a carried by two side arms. A spring tongue 13, cut out from and bent to lie in front of the plate 2 beneath the keeper bar 6, extends across the slot 3 and bar 4 and is cranked at its outer end so that it is close to the bar 4. When the hook 8 is engaged with the bar 4 the end of the tongue 13 wipes over and engages behind the inner edge of the bar 8a of the hook, which is thus securely held. Instead of using a hook, a stud may engage a keyhole slot in the plate attached to the buckle and be retained in the narrower part of the slot by a spring tongue.
