Abstract

605,979. Printing. GOSS PRINTING PRESS CO., Ltd Jan 7, 1946, No. 603. Convention date, Jan. 5, 1945. [Class 100(ii)] In an electrical method of printing such as is described in Specifications 602,985 and 604,012 in which there is no mechanical pressure on the web or sheet passing round the printing-cylinder A and transference of ink is effected by an electrostatic or magnetic field of force, the ink is vaporized in an area adjacent to the web, while being subjected to the electrical field. In Fig. 2, a printing- cylinder A constructed similarly to the cylinders described in Specification 602,985 of a steel shell 10 and metal design parts 11 separated by insulated material 12 such as that sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Bakelite," is charged to a high positive voltage as described in Specification 604,012, and ink in a " bakelite " container 15 is atomized by means of nozzles 17 leading from a supply tube 16, and a negative charge is given to the vapour by needles 19 connected to an earthed negatively charged terminal. The needles are protected by shield members 18. An earthed field electrode 21 is fitted in the container 15 and comprises a relatively open meshed screen. The ink spray has a component parallel to the direction of movement of the lower part of the cylinder 10, and the small particles. only are directed on to the web as larger drops descend by gravity and fall through the screen 21. In a modified form, Fig. 4, heat from elements 61, 62, is used to vaporize the printing medium which may be iodine or a readily molten metal such as lead, and which is held in a "bakelite" container 45. The vapour passes through spaced screens 63 into the neck of the container in which is situated the upper end of the electrode 64 which is surrounded by an insulating sheath 64a. U.S.A.
