[Class 137] Tropical louvre constructions compriseangle-sectioned strips 24. 25, the flanges 31, 50 of which are secured to the jambs 11, 12 of the window opening, channelsection slat holders 35, 47 being pivoted to the outer flanges 32, 51 which are directed inwardly parallel to the jambs 11, 12 but slightly spaced therefrom. The slats 19 are rabbeted at 20 on the lower edges to engage with one another and with the horizontal stop strip 21, or, alternatively, the rabbets may be provided at the top edges. The slat holders are cut away at 42 to correspond with the rabbets 20 and, those for use at the side associated with the operating means, are provided with ears 62 which are pivoted to a vertical connecting bar 60. The bar is operated by a handle 67 which fits removably into a socket in a worm 69 which meshes with a sector 70 carrying an arm 71 connected to the bar 60 by a link 74. In assembling the louvres, the side strips 24, 25 are attached to the jambs and the slats are slid into the holders and retained in place by bending the ends 43 over the top edges of the slats. Resilient strips 78, formed in channel section to embrace the holders 35, 47 and bowed slightly outwards are applied to each holder and close the spaces between the holders and the adjacent flanges 32, 51, the inherent springiness of the material of the strips 24, 25 assisting the resilient sealing of the said spaces. The slats may be of glass, plastic or metal. A fly screen 75 may be applied to the window opening, the operating mechanism 69, 70 being arranged within the limits of the window opening, or, if desired, the fly screen may be applied externally to the opening, in which case the louvres are mounted further towards the inside of the opening.
