Abstract

799,230. Ventilators. COLT VENTILATION, Ltd. June 27, 1956 [July 6, 1955], No. 19577/55. Class 137 A louvre ventilator, adapted to be recessed in a wall of a building and which is substantially weather proof when closed, comprises a box-like frame 2 having a fascia flange 4, sides 6, and an inner flange 8, and a number of louvres 16 each of which is secured along one longitudinal edge to a rod 14 having its ends mounted in corresponding holes in a pair of upstanding flanges 10, secured to, or formed integral with, the flanges 8. The louvres 16 are each formed from a single sheet of metal, the hinge-side longitudinal edge being bent over to form a double thickness projection 18 which is .cut away at the corners to clear the flanges 8, and has its free edge bent up into a circular section beading 20 to receive a hinge rod 14. The opposite longitudinal edge is shaped into an inverted semi-circular trough 22, each side being formed with a tapered trough 24 running from the hinge beading 20 beyond the trough 22 and communicating with the latter. The louvres carry brackets 28 which are linked by a control bar 30 connected at 52 to one end of a toothed chain which is housed in a shield 36 secured by a bracket 40 to the frame 4, and is driven by a worm wheel having a control handle 44. The stiff section of the chain is shielded by a balloon 46. When the ventilator is closed the troughs 22 overlap the beadings 20 and the troughs 24 overlap each other and the flanges 8. A two armed spring 50 is mounted on the securing screw 52, one end of the spring being turned over an end member 48 of the chain 56 and the other end over the bar 30 in order to exert a downward pressure on the member 48.
