Abstract

605,740. Rotary pumps. KIRKLAND, D. E. Dec. 20, 1946, No. 34819/45. [Class 110 (ii)] In a rotary pump of the type having an outwardly sliding vane 10, Fig. 2, operating within a stator 18 of the constant chord type, the vane is divided into two portions urged apart in the radial direction by spring means, each portion being rounded at its outer end, and the axes of the inlet andoutlet ports 31, 32 subtend an angle of about 60 degrees so that the ports lie on the same side of the vane during an appreciable part of each revolution. The spring means comprises a number, e.g. five, of helical springs 40 located in sockets in the two vane portions. Alternatively, the helical springs may be replaced by a curved blade 41, Fig. 4, in which case the vane portions may have a tongue-and-groove fit with the blade 41 located within the groove.
