Abstract

1,004,737. Rotary pumps. J. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. March 18, 1963 [March 28, 1962], No. 11832/62. Heading F1F. In a rotary pump of the outwardly sliding vane type wherein a cylindrical rotor 5 is eccentrically mounted in a cylindrical chamber 4, the inlet 8 and the outlet 9 are formed in the end or in the ends respectively of the chamber 4 and are disposed on opposite sides of a diametral plane of the chamber which passes through the line where the rotor is nearest the wall of the chamber, and are so positioned as to be partially overlapped by the end or the ends of the rotor 5, and ports 11 in the end or ends of the rotor are located between the vanes 7 and communicate in turn with the inlet and outlet as the rotor is rotated, the ports leading through bores 10 and ports 12 to the working chambers of the pump. The ports 11 are of arcuate shape and are formed at the ends of the bores 10. The bores 10 are parallel to the rotor axis and each communicates through a radially extending drilling 13 with the inner end of a slot 6 containing the vane 7 which is immediately in advance of the bore 10 during rotation of the rotor. The vanes 7 may be held in wiping contact with the chamber wall by springs.
