Abstract
<PICT:0605368/IV (c)/1> An apparatus for preboarding or plasticising shaped textile articles, more particularly nylon stockings, comprises an endless conveyer carrying forms for the reception of the shaped textile articles and a preboarding or plasticising chamber through which the articles on the forms are passed due to the movement of the conveyer, a fan 35 for circulating live steam and hot air through the preboarding chamber 30 and one or more electric heaters 42 outside the preboarding chamber. In a modified apparatus, a preboarding or plasticising chamber is provided with a fan for circulating live steam and hot air through the chamber in a closed circuit whereby the steam is injected into the air stream at 43 after it leaves the heating means and before it reaches the fan 35, thus thoroughly admixing the steam and hot air before they reach the preboarding chamber. The steam and hot air may be supplied to the preboarding chamber at or near the bottom of the same, as at 38, on one or both sides, and is withdrawn at or near the top. In a further modified form of the invention, another fan is provided for circulating hot or cold air through the remainder of the preboarding or plasticising chamber so that the articles on the forms are subjected, firstly, to the action of steam and hot air and subsequently to the action of hot or cold air. The heat within the preboarding or plasticising chamber may be supplemented by means of gas or electrically-operated heaters. Specifications 458,550, [Group VIII], and 589,967 are referred to.
