Abstract

604,736. Drying by freezing and subsequent heating. NEALE, E. W. Jan. 9, 1946. No. 863. [Class 34(ii)] Sawn timber to be dried is frozen in a chamber and maintained below freezing point until a uniform temperature exists throughout the timber. It is then transfered to a second chamber where it is heated, preferably at 140‹F., until the moisture is driven off. The second chamber is provided with exhaust fans and ducts to remove the water vapour. The process may take from three to five days.
