Abstract
604,286. Prepayment gas meters. WILSON GAS METERS, Ltd., G. and WILSON, F. C., WILSON, W. D., WITHERS, G. E., [Representatives of WILSON, J. H.], and POOLE, D. C. E. Feb. 10, 1945, No. 3392. [Class 27] The cam 12 controlling the supply valve 17 of a prepayment gas meter has main and auxiliary arcuate surfaces 13, 20 at different radial distances from its axis, and the valve actuating arm 15, which is biassed by a spring 16 towards the valveclosed position, has a pin 14 which coacts with the main surface 13 when the cam is in credit and passes on to the auxiliary surface 20 to close the valve when in debit. The two surfaces 13 and 20 are joined by an inclined portion 19 so that the pin 14 is carried back to the main surface 13 when credit is restored by a further prepayment. The auxiliary surface enables the meter to continue running without straining the mechanism if the valve should fail to close completely, or if it is furnished with a small by-pass for maintaining the supply to a refrigerator. It also ensures that the continued supply is subsequently paid for. Specification 519,628 is referred to.
