Abstract
230,582. Anderson, J. Jan. 11, 1924. Gas, supplying by meter; valves, special arrangements of.-In order to prevent grit or the like from lodging between a valve and its seating in prepayment gas meters, the valve comprises a cup or disc i loosely mounted by means of a pin j, Fig. 3, on the end of a horizontallv pivoted arm k, and pressed on to its seating by a spring l. The valve is moved vertically over the ground face of an upstanding curved flange g, Fig. 2. forming a seating h for a port d and a guide for the whole of the sliding travel of the valve. The valve arm k has a pin v engaged by a slotted arm o inside the valve box, the arm o being connected by a short shaft s passing through a a stuffing-box t to an arm p outside the valvebox. The arm p has a closed slot r formed of two parts set at an angle and engaged by a part of the measuring-cut mechanism which may be of the kind described in Specification 230,583. The arm p also has an extension w provided with a hole for attaching a weight so as to tale up any play on the arm after the valve is closed thereby effecting a quicker movement on the quantity dial when the meter is set to pass only a small quantity of gas per coin.
