Gas, supplying by meter.-Relates to prepayment attachments for gas fires of the type described in Specifications 3377/10 and 21,222/10, and consists chiefly in the arrangement of and means for operating the main and auxiliary valves. After prepayment, the main valve e is opened by the operation of a lever g by the coin just prior to its discharge from the carrier b, the lever g rotating a disk f on the valve against the action of a spring k,. and the disk being retained in this position by the engagement of a pawl h on a spring arm i with a peripheral projection j. The auxiliary valve o is opened by a hand-operated arm p, and is retained in the open position against the action of a spring r by the engagement of a projection s on a spring arm t with an aperture u in a disk q. A peripheral notch u<1> of the disk q cooperates with a lever v to throw a spring w into or out of engagement with the balancewheel x of the clock according as the valve is closed or opened. At the conclusion of the supply, the travelling nut n presses back the arm i permitting the spring k to close the main valve, and the auxiliary valve is closed simultaneously owing to the tripping of the arm t by a projection y on the main valve. Both valves are closed each time a coin is inserted, a lever z engaged by the coin at the commencement of its travel in the carrier b serving to trip the arm h. To allow for changes in the price of gas, the coin is adapted to engage the wheel c after passing an adjustable guard 7. Coin-slit closing devices.-When the maximum number of coins has been inserted a spring member 3 carried bv the nut moves between the coin-carrier b and a fixed post 5 thereby preventing the necessary movement of the carrier to open the coin slot.
