Abstract

4470. Harris, H. K. Feb. 22. Sale apparatus; delivery mechanism.- The apparatus is of the type adapted to be set beforehand to determine the amount of money that must be inserted before the machine can be operated. An operating, delivery, or like slide 12 is normally locked by the engagement of a pawl 16 with a projection 9 of a spring- controlled lever 5, the nose 10 of which rests on an escapement disk or the like y. When coins to the required aggregate value have been inserted (the apparatus shown is adapted to receive halfpennies and pennies), the disk y has been rotated by its driving-spring in the direction of the arrow 3, Fig. 1, to a sufficient extent to bring a notch 8 beneath the nose 10 of the lever 5, whereupon the lever drops and frees the operating slide 12. The movement of the slide 12 serves to restore the disk y to the initial position and to rewind the driving spring, a pin 19 on the slide engaging an arm 2 on the disk. A stop 20 limits the backward movement of the arm and disk, and this stop is set beforehand to determine the amount of money to be inserted. Coin action, weight and multiple-coin.-The escapement disk y is rotated through the space of one or two teeth according as a penny.or a halfpenny is inserted, an escapement lever t being actuated twice by a penny and once by a halfpenny. A penny passing down the shoot s rocks a projection f on the arm d of a lever c, which is connected to the escapement lever, and, as it leaves the shoot, strikes a projection m on a spring-controlled lever h and operates the escapement a second time, but a halfpenny fails to engage the projection f. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the disk y is provided with radial arms 32 and is geared to a second disk 34 having similar arms 35. A penny rotates both disks, but a halfpenny only rotates the lower disk.
