Abstract

604,237. Lamp caps and holders. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 31, 1945, No. 28860. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1944. [Class 38 (i)] In a series high-voltage lighting system for tubular lamps having caps, more particularly of the type described in Specification 599,297, the primary of the supply transformer is connected in series through switches, incorporated in the lamp holders and actuated when the lamps are inserted, An end holder 2 comprises a body 5 with chambers 6, 7, the chamber 6 having a spring-loaded contact 14 in a slidable bearer 15 for the lamp cap. The chamber 7 has a lead 13 connected to a terminal 11 for the transformer secondary winding 54. A holder 3 carries a spring-loaded contact 31 one end of which has a lead 27 for the terminal 25 for the secondary winding 54. A switch 33, 34 adjacent the contact 31 is connected in the primary winding 53 through terminals 35, 36. The blade which is biassed from the blade 33 is actuated by the lamp cap 42 to close the switch. A recess 45 engaging the cap flange limits the movement of the cap in the holder 3. As shown, the holders 2, 3 are combined in one structure to form an intermediate holder 4, the switch 33a, 34a being in series with the switch 33, 34 in the circuit of the primary winding 53.
