604,086. Fencing. DOWLING, D. Nov. 23, 1945, No. 31688. [Class 45] [Also in Group X] A post for supporting sheets of glass &c. to form an enclosure for protecting plants comprises two web portions 2 at an angle to one another, each web having at least two tongues or lugs 4 spaced apart along the post and projecting at an angle therefrom, to provide between each tongue and the adjoining web a V-shaped space open at the top and bottom to receive a vertical edge of a sheet of glass, &c., which may be disposed parallel to a web or parallel to a tongue, whereby similar posts can be used as corner posts of the enclosure or as intermediate posts for building up enclosures of any length desired. The post preferably comprises a steel stamping, pointed at one end and having the tongues or lugs stamped from each web, but the post may be made of a plastic material. The tongues of one web may be staggered with respect to those of the other. The posts may be formed with one or more ledges projecting horizontally towards the interior of the enclosure to support a sheet of glass forming a cover; instead of such ledges, notches 6 may be formed in the webs of the posts, above the tongues, to serve the same purpose. The enclosure may be built up with tiers of sheets, the lower edge of a sheet in an upper tier resting on the upper edge of the sheet below, or on S-shaped supporting hooks 8. The posts may have holes for the attachment of guy ropes or stays or for cords or wires which may be threaded through the holes and run round the. enclosure.
