Abstract
604,043. Casting processes. FOUNDRY SERVICES, Ltd., and STRAUSS, K. Nov. 21, 1945, No. 31418. [Class 83 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] The molten copper or aluminium alloy or ferrous or other metal in the feeder head of a mould or in a ladle &c. is kept hot by applying a mixture of refractory, carbonaceous, and oxygen carrying materials. A suitable mixture comprises 40 per cent of silica flour, 40 of charcoal, and 20 of sodium nitrate. The silica may be replaced by a silicate, aluminium oxide or magnesium oxide, the charcoal by coal or coke dust and the nitrate by manganese dioxide or chlorate, permanganate, or the like. The material may be placed in a paper bag, which is secured in the upper part of a mould.
