Abstract

603,687. Draught excluder. PINDER T. Oct. 29, 1945, No. 28508. [Class 20(iii)] Draught excluders for doors and the like comprise an extensible, or other bar 1 mounted on a floor or base 10 by means of brackets 5 and pivoted about a fixed axis 3 through cranks 2 and adapted to move resilient or flexible material 7 to close the gap between the door 6 and the floor or base 10 when the bar is turned about its axis by a lever 4 being engaged by the door. As shown, the flexible material 7 is laid over the bar 1 and is secured along its edge 8. Thus when turning about its hinges in the direction of the arrow A (Fig. 2) the door adjacent its free edge strikes the lever 4, thereby turning the bar 1 about its axis 3 to raise the material against the lower edge of the door, as in Fig. 3. When the door is opened the bar will fall by gravity and lower the flexible material. In one modification (not shown) the device comprises integral lifting bar, cranks, shafts and actuating lever formed from a piece of wire suitably bent. And in another a similar wire arrangement has in addition a retaining bar, the flexible material being stretched between this bar and the pivoted lifting bar when the actuating lever is moved.
