Abstract
Commercial rubber latex preserved with ammonia is rendered coagulable by heating alone, by adding to it an aqueous suspension of colloidal zinc oxide of a concentration of from 25 to 50 per cent, in the proportion of 2 to 4 per cent of zinc oxide based on the rubber content of the latex, the mixture then being allowed to stand. A preferred mixture consisting of 250 parts of a 40 per cent latex and 4 parts of a 50 per cent colloidal suspension of zinc oxide is coagulated when heated to 85 DEG C.
