Abstract
602,798. Rocket projectiles. PARRY, M. Jan. 17, 1945, No. 1362. [Class 9 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] A rocket shell is driven by the products of combustion of a gas supplied from a chamber 8 and air supplied from a chamber 6, which issue from a port 5 at the rear. A chamber 9 contains the high explosive head. Air is also supplied through a tube 16 from the nose of the shell. A propeller 18 in the nose drives a shaft 15 passing through the tube 16 and carrying a flint wheel 12 which ignites the gaseous mixture. Valves 1, 2, 3 normally held closed by the interior surface of the barrel of the gun from which the shell is fired, open in succession to admit gas at low and high pressure and air to a mixing chamber 4 from which the mixture enters the combustion chamber 5 by means of pipes 14.
