Abstract

602,796. Electron oscillators. MAYO, B. J., and ATHERTON, A. H. Jan. 5, 1944, No. 215. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] In a device of the kind described in Specification 528,041, in which an electron beam is passed into a resonator in which it becomes velocity-modulated and sufficiently chargedensity-modulated to effect a net transfer of energy to the field in the resonator, the beam is reflected back towards the entrance while remaining always within the resonator. The resonator may be cylindrical, with an entrance grid in one end wall and a re-entrant projection in the other end wall to facilitate tuning as in Specification 579,834 ; or hemispherical with the cathode at the centre of the sphere and surrounded by hemispherical entrance grids. In either case, the wall of the resonator is divided into two halves coupled capacitatively, so that the requisite retarding potential may be applied to one wall. Specifications 562,674 and 586,134 also are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 429,863, 449,920, 452,490, 454,361, 460,700, 467,703, 476,817 and 510,512.
