602,161. Typewriters &c. NATIONAL MARKING MACHINE CO. Aug. 1, 1945, No. 30341/47. Convention date, Aug. 10, 1944. Divided out of 602,112. [Class 100 ( iv) ] Inking-arrangements.-In laundry-marking machines of the kind comprising a type-assembly shown as type-wheels 19, a platen-carrier 62 movable to and from printing position and an inking-roller so mounted on the carrier that it will roll across the type as the carrier moves to and fro, a stationary ink-supply device is provided so situated that the inking-roller is in engagement therewith when the carrier is in printing position. As shown, an inking-roller 145 covered with felt rings 146 is mounted in spring-pressed bearings 139 slidable in guides in a bracket 78 fixed to rods 66 rigid with the platen-carrier 62 whereby the roller 145 rolls over the type wheels 19 as the platen moves to and from printing position. The roller 145 is inked by contact with a stationary supply-device 98 consisting of a wick the top of which forms an ink-pad being folded on itself and stitched to form a loop passed over a supporting bar 97, and which dips into a trough 100 adjusted about pivots 202 by turning a screw 93 connected by a link 95 to the trough. The latter is supplied from a constant-level reservoir 108 at one side of the machine connected by a pipe 102 to either of two holes in the bottom of the trough, the other being plugged. The constant-level device comprises a feed pipe 1051 the lower end of which is cut off at a bevel and which is housed in an elbow 103 connected to the pipe 102. In the idle position of the machine, the housing 78 forms a cover for the ink-pad. Specifications 568,833, 569,457 and 602,112 are referred to.
