Rotary intaglio machines ; impression adjustments ; set-off, preventing.-A rotary intaglio web-printing machine is provided with an extended series of web-guiding rollers whereby the course of the web is lengthened for drying the impression and the course can be varied so that the machine can be used in sequence with a similar machine, or with an ordinary typographic machine, for multiple printing or perfecting. or with other machines for numbering, bronzing, goffering, perforating, cutting, &c., for example in an assemblage of machines for completing cheque books from a web; provision is also made for using intaglio cylinders of different diameters. The frame of the machine shown in Figs. 1 and 3 consists of a base 1 with sides 2 and upper frames 67, 68; a number of web-guiding rollers 61 - - 66 are mounted in projections on the sides 2, and others 69-72 in the upper frames, the web 73 being threaded over these rollers according to the arrangement required. The intaglio cylinder 3 is mounted in the sides 2, and to facilitate removal of the cylinder the sides are formed with removable portions 60, Fig. 1, retained by bars 59 secured by screws. The impression cylinder 5 is carried) in bearings 8 adjustable in relation to the cylinder 3 by means of a hand-wheel 10 and worms 13 engaging wheels 14 forming-nuts on screws 15 integral with the bearings. The machine is mounted between guides on a table 74, Fig. 3, which carries a longitudinal driving- shaft 78, and from the corresponding pinion 77 on this shaft the cylinder 3 is driven through a worm-wheel 75. Inking-apparatus. - The inking-apparatus is provided with adjustments to adapt it to different sizes of intaglio cylinder. The ink trough 16, Fig. 3 containing the duct roller 17, is adjustable for height by means of a screw 19 which turns an arm 21 on a shaft 22 provided with other arms 24 acting on thrust heads 25 on a plate 25<a> supporting the ink trough. The scraper is mounted on a carrier attached to a sliding shaft 29, Fig. 3. and is slowly reciprocated laterally by means of a forked lever 37, Fig. 1. on the shaft 29, engaged by a lever 39 actuated by a cam 43, Fig. 3, and gearing 44-48 from the shaft 4 of the intaglio cylinder. A screw adjustment, not shown in Figs. 1 and 3, is provided for varying the position of the scraper, and the pressure is regulated by adjusting a stop 36 controlling a spring 35 which holds a member 34 in contact with an arm 32 on the shaft 29.
