Abstract

602,038. Vehicle ferries. HOLROYD, L., and BAILEY, D. C. Oct. 11, 1945, No. 26650. [Class 113 (ii)] [Also in Group X] Pontoons 1, 2 carry four aluminium alloy road-bearers 6 on steel saddles 5, adjustable ramps 9 being hinged to opposite ends of the road-bearers 6 and balancing each other by means of steel wire ropes 12. Each ramp terminates in a shore transom 16 and a shore ramp 17. The roadway comprises deck panels 20, stiffeners 18 and a kerb 23. Two units may be coupled together in tandem, overlapping ramps being connected adjustably by couplings comprising a bar, a stirrup and a belt, thus forming a floating bridge. Propulsion may be by outboard motors.
