Abstract

922,145. Amphibious craft. A. HEDSTROM. July 17, 1961 [Aug.11, 1960], No.25861/61. Class 113. An amphibious craft, which may be used as a bridge or a ferry, comprises a main pontoon 1, having retractable caterpillar tracks 4, to which is hingedly connected side pontoons and end ramps so that they may be extended outboard or retracted and stowed on the main pontoon deck as shown in the Figs. The ramps are divided longitudinally into equal parts 3 which are of less width than the side pontoons 2 so that they may be housed in recesses 15 in the pontoons when stowed. Each pontoon and ramp part has a separate hydraulic linkage for moving it and the pontoons 2 may be filled with cellular plastic and divided by watertight bulkheads.
