Abstract
997,233. Watercraft. R. E. BROADHURST. Sept. 6, 1962 [Sept. 8, 1961], No. 32408/61. Headings B7A, B7S and B7V. A watercraft, e.g. an amphibious vehicle, comprises a -hull 1 of the hydroplane type having a deck 5 at least the forward part of which is rectangular, and having at its sides means 56 for the attachment of a pair of supplementary port and starboard pontoons 9 and 10. Outrigger beams 57 are pivoted to the hull 1 so as to be extendable and locatable in channels 58 in the decks of the pontoons with eyes on the outer ends of the beams cooperating with eyes on the pontoons. Hooks on the bottom sides of the pontoons locate on pins on the hull and clamping bolts on the upper sides screw down upon ledges on the hull. The pontoons 9 and 10 are joined to the hull 1 with their centres of buoyancies aligned and in front of that of the hull 10. Wheels are provided which are retractable into sponsons 43 and for transport on land the pontoons 9 and 10 are stowed upside-down on the deck 5 of the hull 1. A towing bracket 3 can be used when the craft is afloat. The space between the bows of the pontoons may be decked and both the hull and the pontoons may be provided with ramps. Masts, a propulsion motor, and rudders may be provided.
