Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the resistance of a hull by providing the shell in the front shoulder parts where waves break and near the bows with concave parts and endless belts in one plane of the shell to be driven in the direction to accelerate water streams for preventing the separation of water streams from the shell.
CONSTITUTION: Concave parts 12 are provided on a shell 11 in the front shoulder part where waves break and near the stern of a large-sized ship like a tanker or a high-speed sailing ship. In these concave parts 12, endless belts 7 each expanded between a pair of vertical rolls arranged in parallel in the direction of a bow-stern line at an interval with its outer surface almost in one plane with the outside of the shell are provided for driving their outer surfaces to accelerate water streams along the shell. Since water streams near the parts where waves break are accelerated by endless belts 7, the water streams are prevented from separation, and the resistance of a hull can be reduced.
