Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the efficiency of side thrusters and the turning moment substantially by mounting the side thrusters to a catamaran inclined at a specific angle.
CONSTITUTION: Hulls 1 and 1a are connected with a tying number to form a catamaran 10. Side thrusters 2 and 2a are provided at the bow thereof with the axes 3 and 3a of the thrusters inclined by an angle of θ so that the intersection 4 between the axes is positioned before the axis 5 thereof orthogonally crossed by center lines 6 and 6a of the hulls. Likewise, the axes 3' and 3a' of the side thrusters 2' and 2a' at the stern are inclined by an angle of θ. It is desired that the angle of inclination shall satisfy the formulas 1 and 2. This prevents any one of hulls from blocking the axial flow of the side thrusters thereby increasing the efficiency of the side thrusters and the turning moment substantially.
